The other day I heard a politician say that our generation is a pivotal one. We could end up taking the nation in a positive or a negative direction. I completely agree. Right now, if we got thrust into power, I believe that there are more immature people in our generation than wise ones, and therefore, we would fail. Luckily we have some time. So I have a few tips for success.
First of all, those of us who are in school need to stop cutting corners and read books/news articles/magazines. We don't read and therefore we don't learn. We just regurgitate the things that the teacher says so we can pass an exam (if we even do that) and then we forget it. Reading helps you retain knowledge.
Secondly, we need to have intelligent discussions built upon what we read and what is on the news. Out of my 6 line brothers, I rely on one for all my news-based discussions because the rest of them don't read or watch the news on a regular basis. It's cool to know the new music that's out but if you can't converse about a major political decision in an articulate manner, you look like an idiot to a potential employer. And let's not act like we're in high school. Almost all of my friends are older than 20 years old. "I'm a teenager" is no longer an excuse for us. As of yesterday, I've got exactly 6 and a half months until I am 6 years from 30. It's time to make these moves toward success. Knowing the new Frank Ocean song isn't going to help me do that.
Lastly, which should be first but I am thinking as I type, work on your relationship with God. I'm not saying you have to believe in the God and Christ (though I know that He is "the way and the truth and the life") but you have to have some kind of moral compass. To say that everything is subjective is selfish. Especially as Christians, for us to not speak up when we see people doing wrong is to say we hope they go to Hell (which is a real place). No one is perfect, but no one these days should be ignorant either. If people knew the things that God said, not even on a spiritual one but just on a moral one, they might think "Oh, well this makes sense so maybe I should at least have a moral foundation so that I can live a good life" and our parents' generation wouldn't be so worried about whether or not we were going to be the downfall of a nation.
Just my thoughts. Take them for what they are.

Actually, one more thing: GROW THE HECK UP!!! Stop having mom and dad do everything for you. Maybe I feel like this because I do mostly everything for myself, but come on people. Your parents shouldn't be setting up all of your doctors appointments when you're a year from 25. This goes more to the males than the females because of the fact that it's more acceptable but still, do for yourself. If you're living at your parents' house, give them some money for something (rent, groceries, or just to say "Thanks for letting me stay here free of charge"). But don't continue to let them cripple you because one day, if things go normally, they will be gone and you will still be here and you need to know how to handle things yourself.
Ok. Now I'm done.
